We hope that you are enjoying writing your papers for ERE. Below we present a timeline detailing how the paper writing, presentation and publication process will work. We have developed this process so that you can get maximum benefit for your research from the conference.

 

Task	Date	Description/ further details
Submission of draft paper	3 May 2009	Please submit your papers to ere2009papers@yahoo.com.au. If you already haven't submitted your conference registration form, please do so. It is also available in the Pages & Files Tab in the top right hand corner of this webpage (Click on All Files to find the form).
ERE committee will send all delegates a pdf file of all received papers	6 May 2009	We encourage you to peruse these papers before the conference.
Paper presentations	ERE 2009: 10-13 May	Each delegate will have 25 minutes to present and discuss their paper. This is an invaluable opportunity to get critical feedback from attending academics as well as conference delegates. We recommend that you set aside at least 10 minutes of this time for discussion (i.e. maximum 15 minute presentation). You are also welcome to use your allotted time creatively, e.g. you could lead us through an activity to demonstrate your research.
Poster presentation	ERE 2009: 10-13 May	Your poster will be displayed during the conference. This will give interested delegates further opportunities to discuss your work outside of your allotted presentation time (see attached file for further guidance).
Writing workshop	ERE 2009: 10-13 May	During this workshop you will have the opportunity to polish your draft paper.
Submission of final version of paper	30 June	We will submit your paper for review to an appropriate journal. We have already been approached by Management of Environmental Quality with the view to possible publication in their journal. Discussions with other journals are on-going.
ERE committee will send out a CD of all final papers	17 July	-

 

 

Registration Fee

The registration fee for ERE 2009 is $550. Please pay by 20 April using the following banking details - BSB: 012 622, Account Number: 110503784, ABN: 67 485 295 183. Please note that the registration fee covers all accommodation and meals at the conference. We have organised this for you and so you do not need to contact Noosa North Shore Resort.

Water, Energy, Climate Change and Society: Putting the Pieces Together 

 

We can no longer afford to take a silo approach to environmental issues. Beyond the safety of our own specialties, the debates surrounding water, energy and climate change are inextricably linked. So how can we develop as specialist researchers while remaining critically aware of and connected to the other pieces in the puzzle? ERE 2009 will bring together research students, senior academics, industry experts and government representatives from a diverse range of backgrounds to discuss the challenges of environmental research in an increasingly complex world.We can no longer afford to take a silo approach to environmental issues. Conference Topics

ERE 2009 is open to all current higher degree research students. The theme for this year’s event is ‘Water, Energy, Climate Change and Society: Putting the Pieces Together’. Suggested topics areas are:

 

• Innovative responses to complex environmental problems
• Institutional and organisational change for sustainable water and energy systems
• Transitioning to a low-carbon economy
• Community engagement and education

 

Conference Workshops

As an ERE2009 delegate, you will have the opportunity to participate in two dynamic workshops to improve your thesis. These workshops will focus on interactive presentation skills as well as how to write with clarity and grace.

History

The Environment Research Event (ERE) began 12 years ago at the University of Queensland, as a means for postgraduate students to present their research to fellow students, senior academics and industry partners in a relaxed environment. In 1997 this research event went national and has since evolved to incorporate international delegates.  ERE provides researchers and environmental professionals a unique opportunity for networking, and to observe and discuss the development of research in the environmental, engineering, economic and social sciences fields.
